Trust me this is not a 'very long time'. I once worked for a Police force that had to revert to paper based systems for 8 days whilst the database screw up got fixed.
Trying to write PL/SQL code on the fly to fix someone else's mess whilst an Assistant Chief Constable looks over your shoulder isn't the least stressful thing I've ever done... |

Have you tried unplugging it and then plugging it back in? The real solution is clearly taking the cartridge out and blowing in it. vacuum cleaner on low suction works better

Often you don't want to do that immediately as you need to gather info as to the problem. Only when you exhaust that avenue do you rollback otherwise you may simply take 2 hours recovering only to hit the very same problem. |

That explains it, they aren't using a real database... |

Here's a thought for those saying 'Use the backup/rollback'. They probably already did and it didn't fix it. This is where the support staff really start to earn there ISK.
As for SLA's I doubt there is a specific time listed in which any and all problems will be fixed as that is simply impossible to guarantee. They did however tell us of the problem within an hour and that is much better than ,any companies would do. |

Sam Spock wrote:At my first IT job I would be sitting in the server room trying to coax the exchange server back to life after a BSOD. Every minute or so some helpful soul would pop in and say "You know email is down right?" I put a sign on the door that said "If you see me in here, I already know about it"
Didn't help.
My favourite version of that was a guy who taped a message on A4 paper to his back that read:
'I know there is a problem, do not disturb me unless the building is on fire'. |
